Nel 1930 Alfonso Bialetti fonda la Bialetti, inventando il progetto 'moka express', che oggi è diventata una delle più comuni e usate macchine per il caffè. Nella primavera del 2011, Alessi invita il designer Alessandro Mendini, e gli affida l'arduo compito di creare un tributo, chiedendogli di progettare una nuova caffettiera per l'azienda, la Moka Alessi. Così la Mendini Moka diviene una reinterpretazione della precedente, formalizzando un design contemporaneo costituito da curve sottili.
