St George Distillery in Alameda has been at the vanguard of the American craft spirits revolution for nearly four decades, distilling exceptional artisanal spirits with integrity, including single malt whiskey, absinthe, gin, vodka, brandy, and liqueurs. Their whiskey set includes Baller Single Malt - A California take on the Japanese spin on Scotch whisky.” Starting with 100% American barley, it is distilled in eau de vie pot stills, then aged in used bourbon casks and French oak wine casks, and filtered through maple charcoal. It is finished in casks that had held house-made umeshu (a Japanese style of plum liqueur made entirely from California-grown ume fruit). Breaking & Entering brings together bourbon and rye that head distiller/blender Dave Smith sourced, with some of their own California malt whiskey. The blend brings together four grains—rye, corn, barley, wheat—with no one grain being dominant.

Crisp and dry, honeyed malty sweetness, pine, subtle wood smoke, plum, vanilla bean; sweet creosote, lemon peel, grilled peach, chimney soot, and stewed plum.

Don't let anybody tell you you're basic just because you love a Spritz now and again. But if you've only been making them with Aperol, your haters may have a point. Redeem your street cred and mix up some dynamite spritzes while you're at it with this alternative spritz collection to refresh and dazzle. Host a brunch with all three on the menu for a get-together that's as classy as it is boozy.

This set includes three fantastically unique new spritz options:

Contratto Aperitif Liqueur is an easy comparison to Aperol in its bright citrus qualities and fairly low level of bitterness, but has a much more pronounced herbal side, making a slightly more complex, but just as refreshing spritz. It's also naturally colored with beetroot and carrot, so you don't have to feel as much like you're drinking a soda pop. (1 L)

Select Aperitivo Liqueur is the classic, traditional spritz choice in Venice, the home of the spritz. It brings to the fore notes of vanilla, cardamom, and ginger, making a very different drink than the classic Aperol, with a twinge more bitterness, but no less easy to enjoy. (750 ml)

Cap Corse Mattei Blanc Quinquina is a Corsican aperitif that is flavored with various botanicals, including macerations of cinchona bark and local citron fruit, which lends a bright acidity. The sweetness comes from natural grape sugars, and lovely light flavors of honeysuckle and elderflower abound. For those who are willing to forego the bright orange color of their spritz for something a little less gaudy. (750 ml)

Getting that seven-year itch in your love affair with the Negroni? Drinkers switch up their gin and vermouth all the time, but many never think to change out their beloved Campari, which is a damn shame. While there is nothing wrong with Campari, there are so many other lovely, bracing, bitter liqueurs that can just as handily sitteth on the right hand of gin in the holy trinity that is the Negroni.

This set includes three of our favorites:

Martini Riserva Speciale Bitter Liqueur is a bit less aggressive than Campari, but certainly the most similar of the set. A beautiful orange presence throughout surrounds a lighter, but assertive bitterness, along with spicy and herbal notes that come through on the finish. An essential. (750 ml)

St. George's Bruto Americano lights your mouth up upon first taste, with big, bold gentian bitterness and dark, woody notes from Balsam Fir and California Buckthorn bark. There is also a very present orange, but it takes on a darker tone in the presence of so much brooding woodsiness. (750 ml)

Gran Classico Bitter is definitely on the softer side in terms of bitterness, and also tones down significantly the orange notes in favor of warm baking spices, making it seem almost tailor-made for a Boulevardier. (750 ml)

The Bottled in Bond renaissance is well underway, thanks in no small part to Bernie Lubbers, aka The Whiskey Professor, and the Heaven Hill distillery, producer of the largest and most well respected Bottled in Bond collection on the planet. To be labeled as Bottled-in-Bond, a whiskey must be the product of one distillery and distilled during just one distillation season, which runs from January-June or July-December. These whiskeys must be aged for at least four years, and bottled at exactly 100 Proof, for a strong, signature flavor. Additionally, the D.S.P., or Distilled Spirits Plant numbers of both the production and bottling facilities must be stated on the label. Enjoy and compare these bottled in bond spirits, neat, with a touch of water, or perhaps in a Manhattan, knowing they all come with the reassurance of BIB quality and transparency.

Forthave Red Aperitivo Liqueur: A bittersweet aperitivo infused with 13 botanicals including orange, chamomile, rose buds, rose hips and rhubarb root. Somewhere in between Aperol and Campari in character and bitterness, with a hell of a lot more complexity than either. Terroir Gin is made using all botanicals native to Northern California, including Douglas fir, California bay laurel, coastal sage, and juniper foraged from the Diablo Range. Piney, woodsy, herbal, a little earthy, and utterly distinct.

Botanivore combines 19 herbs, spices, fruits, roots, and seeds to become one glorious spirit. Its first citrus burst (from lemon, lime, bergamot, and Seville orange) paves the way for earthy angelica and bay laurel. Then it's time for the herbs and spices to have their way with juniper, fennel, peppercorn, star anise, hops, and more ensuring a long finish with flavorful twists and turns along the way.

Dry Rye is more straightforward than its two counterparts, with only six botanicals (more juniper than in their other gins, peppercorn, caraway, coriander, grapefruit peel, and lime peel) for an intense and junipery flavor that plays beautifully with the light maltiness of the unaged rye base.
