Portuguese Army specialist wearing full protective gear checks his Geiger counter for radiation at the end of the practice of several detection and decontamination procedures during the 2nd day of CELULEX 22, that includes the reaction to a radiation threat, at the Army Weapons School premises on October 11, 2022 in Mafra, Portugal. The Portuguese Army conducts, between October 10 and 14, exercise CELULEX 22, in an inter-agency and concerted environment, contributing to the development of national Nuclear, Biological, Chemical and Radiological Defense capabilities. CELULEX 22, in addition of the Army's Biological, Chemical and Radiological Defense Elements, includes the participation of the Spanish Army, the Armed Forces of Slovenia, as observers, and members of National Civil Protection Agency. The exercise involves 250 participants, both civilians and military personnel. As opposed to Spain, Portugal allows the use of radioactive materiel in small quantities for the exercise's purposes.
